Here is something most people do not know about Palamu.
This district has one of the oldest tiger reserves in India.
Palamu Tiger Reserve. Established 1973. One of the nine original Project Tiger reserves. The first census of tigers in independent India was conducted here.
And there is a specific historical site.
Palamu Fort. Actually two forts - old and new - built on the banks of the Koel river. The Old Palamu Fort dates to the 16th century. Built by the Chero dynasty. Then captured by the Mughal general Daud Khan Qureshi. Then contested by the British.
And here is what makes Palamu's fort especially significant.
The British attacked Palamu Fort in 1771 - during the period when Warren Hastings was Governor-General. The Chero kings resisted. The records of this campaign are among the earliest documented British military operations in the Jharkhand region.
16th century fort. 1771 British attack. Tiger reserve since 1973. First India tiger census here.
And Palamu has a specific contemporary connection.
This district was historically Naxal-affected. Security forces - CRPF, police - have had long presence here. Children here grow up knowing what the security forces look like. What their presence means.
Tiger reserve. Ancient fort. First tiger census. Security forces presence.
That is why we run Sainik School Coaching in Palamu. Also RMS Coaching in Palamu and RIMC Coaching in Palamu. The district that resisted British military for decades and hosted India's first tiger census - its children belong in officer ranks. We train them for commission.
