Sainik School, RMS & RIMC Coaching in Himachal Pradesh
Here is something most people do not know about Himachal Pradesh.
This small hill state has won more Param Vir Chakras per capita than any other state in India. Four PVCs from a state with just 70 lakh population. Compare that to UP with 25 crore population and similar number of PVCs.
I did not believe the math when I first calculated. Himachal? The peaceful tourist state? Producing maximum bravest soldiers per capita?
Yes. Major Somnath Sharma. Captain Vikram Batra. Naik Jadunath Singh. Rifleman Sanjay Kumar. All from this small state. All Param Vir Chakra. The highest gallantry award.
The mountains do not just make scenery here. They make warriors.
A state that produces maximum heroes per capita. Why should it not produce maximum officers too?
Everyone knows the slogan. Yeh Dil Maange More. But let me tell you the full story because it matters.
Captain Vikram Batra. From Palampur. Kangra district. 13 JAK Rifles. Kargil War 1999.
His unit was tasked to capture Point 5140. One of the most difficult peaks. Pakistani bunkers on top. Sheer cliff below.
Batra led from front. Climbed the cliff. Reached enemy bunker. Killed three Pakistani soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. Captured the peak.
His code name was Sher Shah. Lion King. After capturing the peak, he sent radio message. The famous one. Yeh Dil Maange More.
Then came Point 4875. Another impossible peak. Batra volunteered again. During assault, a junior officer got injured. Batra went to rescue him. Told him to stay back because he had family. A bullet hit Batra in the chest.
He was 24 years old. Unmarried. Param Vir Chakra. Posthumous.
Shershah movie was made on him. Sidharth Malhotra played him. But the real Batra was even more impressive than the movie showed.
When your child prepares for Sainik School Coaching in Himachal Pradesh, tell them this story. The standard is this high.
Let me tell you about the regiments connected to Himachal.
Dogra Regiment. Soldiers from Himachal, Jammu, Uttarakhand. Hill people. Mountain warfare specialists.
Gorkha Rifles. Multiple battalions recruit from Himachal hills. The Gurkhas and Himachalis fight together. Same terrain training. Same toughness.
JAK Rifles. Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. Many Himachali soldiers here. Captain Batra was JAK Rifles.
These regiments have fought every war. 1947. 1962. 1965. 1971. Kargil. Siachen. Eastern Ladakh.
Why does this matter for Sainik School coaching?
Because Himachali children have this blood. The same genetics that produced Vikram Batra. The same mountains that made Sanjay Kumar. These children just need the officer pathway.
Military School Entrance Coaching in Himachal Pradesh provides that pathway.
Himachal Pradesh stretches across western Himalayas. From Shivalik foothills to high altitude peaks.
Twelve districts. Shimla is capital. But military families are everywhere.
Kangra district has maximum population. Palampur is here. Dharamshala is here. Captain Batra's hometown.
Mandi district is center of state. Good connectivity.
Kullu-Manali belt is tourist area. But local boys join army, not tourism industry.
Hamirpur and Bilaspur are smaller districts. Highest army recruitment per capita happens here. These two districts have earned the name of soldier districts.
Una is closest to Punjab plains. Different culture. Still military tradition strong.
The terrain varies. Some areas are accessible. Some are remote. But army recruitment happens from everywhere.
A man from Hamirpur called me. His son is in Class 4. Wants Sainik School admission.
He told me about his family. His uncle was martyred in Kargil. His father retired from army after 25 years of service. He himself could not join because he failed in written recruitment test. Studies were not his strength.
But his son is different. Tops his class. Good in mathematics. Quick learner.
The father sees redemption in son. The uncle's sacrifice can mean something more if the nephew becomes officer. Not just jawan like uncle was. But officer who commands.
Three generations connected to army. Two served as jawans. Third one will serve as officer. That is the plan.
This is Himachal. Sacrifice runs in blood here. Dreams pass from generation to generation.
Best Sainik Coaching in Himachal Pradesh exists because families like his carry dreams across decades.
Himachal Pradesh has excellent options. Geography helps.
RMS Chail - In Solan district. Just 45 km from Shimla. Rashtriya Military School ↗. Established 1925 by British. Originally called Lawrence School. Beautiful hill campus at 2250 meters altitude. One of the best military schools in India.
Sainik School Sujanpur Tira - In Hamirpur district. Established 1978. State's own Sainik School. Has produced many officers over 45 years. HP domicile gets 67% reservation.
RIMC Dehradun - About 200 km from Shimla. The crown jewel. Only 250 seats for entire India. But for Himachal students, it is relatively close. Same hill culture.
Sainik School Nagrota - About 250 km. In Jammu. Another option for students from Chamba and Kangra side.
The advantage for Himachal students? RMS Chail is right here. One of the top military schools. British-era legacy. And Sainik School Sujanpur Tira for state quota.
AISSEE. All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination. Conducted by NTA.

English | 125 |
Maths | 200 |
GK | 75 |
Total | 400 |
Then personal interview. Essay writing matters a lot. Only 250 seats for entire India.
This trips up many families. Read carefully.
Sainik School Class 6: Age between 10-12 years as on 31st March of admission year.
Sainik School Class 9: Age between 13-15 years as on 31st March.
RIMC Class 8: Age between 11.5 and 13 years.
No exceptions. No flexibility. Miss the window and wait for next level or give up entirely.
I have seen parents who started preparing too late. Child aged out before exam. Nothing can be done at that point.
Calculate backwards. Plan accordingly.
I have taught students from many places. Himachal students have certain characteristics.
Mountain toughness is built-in. Walking uphill to school daily. Carrying bags on steep paths. Lungs are strong. Legs are strong. Physical fitness is natural advantage.
Military is respected career here. Not backup option. First choice for many families. Motivation is genuine and deep.
Less population means less competition. Only 70 lakh people in entire state. Fewer students competing for state quota seats compared to UP or Rajasthan.
English is better than Hindi belt states. Good government schools exist. Some convent schools in towns like Shimla and Dharamshala.
Remote areas have connectivity disadvantage. Internet issues in interior Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba. Travel to coaching centers is difficult. But online coaching is solving this problem gradually.
These are realities. Work with them.
Let me tell you about another Himachali PVC. Because one is not enough to show the pattern.
Rifleman Sanjay Kumar. From Bilaspur district. 13 JAK Rifles. Same battalion as Captain Batra. Kargil War 1999.
Area Flat Top. July 4, 1999. His unit was climbing to capture a peak. Heavy Pakistani fire from above. Three soldiers in front of him fell dead.
Sanjay Kumar kept climbing. Alone. Reached the first enemy bunker. His rifle had jammed. Malfunctioned. Useless.
He killed three Pakistani soldiers with his bare hands. Then picked up their machine gun. Turned it on the second bunker. Killed four more enemies.
He was hit by bullets. Multiple wounds. Still kept fighting until the peak was captured.
He survived. One of only three living PVC holders in India today.
Same battalion as Batra. Same war. Same impossible courage. Two PVCs from 13 JAK Rifles in one war. Both connected to Himachal.
When your child prepares for RMS Class 6 and 9 Preparation in Himachal Pradesh, they follow this legacy.
I will be direct.
Himachal has limited coaching infrastructure. Small towns. Scattered population across mountains. No coaching hub like Kota or Delhi.
Options available:
Shimla has some coaching centers for various competitive exams
Dharamshala has limited options
Online classes work well for hill students
Self-study with parental guidance possible for motivated families
Travel to Chandigarh for intensive coaching is option for some
For students in remote areas like Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, interior Chamba, online coaching is only practical option.
For students in Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Una areas, combination of local tuition and online specialized coaching works best.
The advantage? Less local competition. Most Himachal families do not know about Sainik School pathway yet. Your child has edge if prepared properly while others remain unaware.
Daily schedule for serious candidate:
Morning (6-8 AM): Mathematics. This is when mind is fresh. Solve problems. Not just read theory.
School hours: Regular school. Cannot skip this.
Afternoon (4-6 PM): Intelligence and reasoning. Pattern practice. Series completion. Analogies.
Evening (7-8 PM): GK and current affairs. Read newspaper. Discuss with parents.
Night (8:30-9:30 PM): Language section. Grammar rules. Vocabulary. Comprehension practice.
Sunday: Full mock test. Proper timing. OMR sheet practice.
This happens 6 days a week. For 6-12 months before exam.
Himachal students should maintain their fitness advantage. Keep walking hills. Do not get lazy during winter vacations. The mountains have given you a gift. Keep it sharp.
Private school education Class 6 to Class 12 in Himachal: Rs 3-6 lakh total.
Engineering college: Rs 8-15 lakh for 4 years.
Medical college (private): Rs 50 lakh to 1 crore.
Now compare.
Sainik School Class 6 to Class 12: Fees are subsidized. HP domicile students get additional benefits. Defence personnel children pay even less than that.
After Sainik School, if child clears NDA: Free education at National Defence Academy ↗. Stipend paid to cadets during training. Commission as officer. Lifetime career with pension and benefits.
Many Himachal families already have army connection. Defence category concessions apply to them. The cost becomes minimal. Almost negligible for some.
Clear written exam and you still face medical test.
Height requirements exist. Different for different age groups. Check current standards before applying.
Weight must be proportionate to height.
Vision checked carefully. Some vision problems disqualify candidates.
Hearing tested thoroughly.
General fitness assessed by medical board.
Himachal students usually clear medical easily. Mountain lifestyle keeps them naturally fit. Clean air. Physical activity is part of daily life. Strong lungs developed from high altitude living since childhood.
The altitude advantage is real and significant. Your child already trains at elevation that others pay money to access at special camps.
Sainik School Sujanpur Tira might have 80-90 seats for Class 6. Applications from across Himachal and neighboring states. Maybe 3,000-5,000 applications. Acceptance rate: 2-3%. Better than most states.
RMS Chail is Category A military school. Competition is tough because reputation is excellent. But worth every effort.
RIMC Dehradun has 250 seats for entire India. Applications cross lakhs. Acceptance rate: Less than 0.5%.
These are not easy exams. I will not pretend otherwise.
But Himachal has produced four PVCs from 70 lakh people. That is highest per capita bravery record in India. If this state can top bravery per capita, why not officer selection per capita?
Sainik School Coaching in Himachal Pradesh provides that preparation.
This is the conversation Himachal needs to have.
The state gives soldiers. Plenty of them. Brave ones. PVC winners. Medal earners.
But how many become officers? Not enough compared to potential.
The soldiers are there. The courage is clearly there. The physical fitness is naturally there. What is missing is the pathway knowledge and structured preparation.
The journey is clear:
Class 6 or 9: Clear Sainik School entrance.
Class 10: Board exams in Sainik School.
Class 12: Board exams plus NDA written exam.
After Class 12: NDA training for three years.
Graduation: Commission as Lieutenant.
Vikram Batra became Captain and won PVC. Imagine if more Himachali children become Captains. Then Majors. Then Colonels. Then Brigadiers and Generals.
The mountains that made legendary jawans should make legendary generals too.
Himachal has given India four Param Vir Chakras. Maximum per capita in the country. The mountains made these heroes.
Captain Vikram Batra. Sher Shah. Died at 24 protecting a fellow officer who had family.
Rifleman Sanjay Kumar. Killed enemies with bare hands when rifle failed. Still alive. Still inspiring young soldiers.
Your child breathes the same mountain air. Walks the same steep hills. Carries the same blood in veins.
The entrance exams do not ask how many PVCs your state produced. They ask mathematical questions. Reasoning puzzles. General knowledge facts. Language skills.
Can your child answer correctly? That is the only question that matters.
Sainik School Coaching in Himachal Pradesh exists because the answer can be yes. With preparation. With consistency. With the same determination that made Batra climb Point 5140 under enemy fire.
He wanted more after capturing one peak. Volunteered for another impossible mission.
Your child should want more too. More preparation. More practice. More effort. More determination.
The Himalayas have watched Himachalis become national heroes. Now let them watch your child become officer.
RMS Chail is 45 km from Shimla. RIMC is 200 km away. Sujanpur Tira is within your own state.
The mountains are high. The dreams should be higher.
Four PVCs from 70 lakh people. Now add officers to that extraordinary count.
