Here is something most people do not know about Barrackpore.
The 1857 revolt - the First War of Indian Independence - began in this town.
Mangal Pandey. March 29, 1857. At the Barrackpore Cantonment, on the banks of the Hooghly. A sepoy of the 34th Bengal Infantry. He attacked a British sergeant and adjutant with his musket and sword. He was overpowered, court-martialled, and hanged on April 8, 1857. Two weeks later, his regiment was disbanded.
His act - and the execution that followed - became the immediate trigger that spread the revolt across the subcontinent in May 1857. The broader revolt started at Meerut and Delhi in May. But the spark - Mangal Pandey - was here. At Barrackpore.
The word "Pandey" entered British Army slang as a term for any Indian rebel soldier - such was the impact of this one man's act at this one cantonment on the Hooghly.
And Barrackpore has been a cantonment since the British established it as one of their primary military stations near Calcutta in the late 18th century. The Bengal Presidency's main military garrison. The same cantonment where Mangal Pandey's regiment was stationed remains an active Indian Army cantonment today.
Active cantonment since the 18th century. Mangal Pandey - the spark of 1857. Hooghly river. Kolkata's northern suburb.
And there is a Gandhi connection - Gandhi's Ashram at Barrackpore, where he stayed during his visits to Bengal, is a heritage site.
That is why we run Sainik School Coaching in Barrackpore. Also RMS Coaching in Barrackpore and RIMC Coaching in Barrackpore. The town where the spark of 1857 was struck - its children should be the officers protecting the free India that spark eventually produced. We train them for commission.

Mangal Pandey acted alone at Barrackpore on March 29. His regiment did not immediately rise with him. The broader revolt came months later. But his singular act - one person, one moment of decisive action - became the spark that eventually ignited a continent-wide revolt. Your child's preparation begins as one individual act - the decision on one specific day to start studying seriously. No one around them may be doing it. No visible immediate result. But that singular decision, acted on consistently, becomes the spark of a two-year preparation that ignites selection.
Strict. No exceptions.
